Pharmaceutical drug development refers to the method of creating or discovering a new drug and introducing it in to the market for pharmaceutical purposes. These drugs can be used to treat medical illnesses and to save lives. The process however is more complicated than it may seem. One aspect of drug development is to make sure that it satisfies the regulatory requirements of drug licensing authorities in order to continue with the research. It has to be made sure that the drug is not toxic to any of the body’s major organs such as the heart, brain, lungs, kidney, liver etc. Its affects on the other body parts are also to be tested and their reaction has to be taken into consideration.

Discovering the drug is just one of the many steps. It is the very initial stage. After that, the drug has to go through a pre-clinical research and then clinical trials. These are done on a selective group of humans to test the drug. These people are usually the ones suffering from a specific disease or have a certain medical condition that the research team hopes to cure with their drug. Clinical trials are a way to check if the drug serves the purpose it is intended for and to calculate the risk it involves. Drugs usually have some side effects. Sometimes these side effects are negligible, sometimes they are not. And the drug has to be declared unfit for human consumption.

In April 2010, in a landmark judgment, Provenge was accepted as a treatment for prostate cancer. This in turn gave rise to a series of research work surrounding immunotherapies for curing cancer. Provenge is in fact a vaccine that has been proven to have brought about significant improvements in cancer patients. The main objective of the T-cells is to somehow associate with the tumor cells to make the body immune to any future attacks from outside.

A certain kind of therapy, called Kinoid therapy, was found to be an extremely effective immunotherapy program in the year 2010. It was found to be more effective in fact than the existing programs like Humira, Enbrel and Remicade, which can cause infections and allergies. Organizations are responsible in a big way to provide assistance to these kinds of researches. A CRO in particular is an outsourcing and research partner for many pharmaceutical drugs and medical devices.

They offer great flexibility with respect to time and the nature of the project as well. If a person wants to conduct a medical trial of some sort, then also the ideal thing would be hire or sub-contract some CRO. Suppose your company wants to launch a new product, like some food supplement. But first, before you can get clearance from the FDA or other similar organizations around the world, you have to get it tested. This testing can be done by the CRO. The CRO should be a large company and should also have a large employee base. If that is the case, then they will be able to conduct those trials meticulously.

It is usually recommendable to have a copy of the product being tested, but it is not possible also. It is in such cases that the CRO’s importance increases manifold. That is because only CROs can have the professional skills and ability to do such a delicate work and that too in a time bound way. A CRO in Japan, a country with the most advance technology, can serve the same purposes as stated above.
