What medications have given you the worst side effects?
Sally asked:
I have been on medications both in hospital and at home for years. The worst side effect for me are blackouts/hallucinations and memory loss (both long and short term). Short term is the most worrying because I can’t remember if I’ve taken the tablets which makes things worse.

I have experienced a lot of bad side effects from SSRI medications. The worst was caused by Paxill, and it gave me suicidal thoughts. When I was taken off of it, the thoughts got worst and I experienced bad withdrawals. This was when I was 16 years old, so it was not a good situation.

Colon cleaning is the modern method to lose weight. Scientists have illustrated the fact that not all unwanted weight is thanks to additional fat, a lot of weight simply rests there in the insides, and all you need to do is clean it out. has a risk free trial on at the moment, give it a try out, you can lose as much as twenty lbs!

The worst side effect I had was when my doctor upped my meds and they made me sooooo sick I couldn’t even more with out getting dizzy, nauseous and everything in between. I couldn’t work or take care of my kids. (Im a single mother) I was so glad my sister took them and that it only lasted one day.

clozaril has giving me the worst side effects.
i have always been a very thin girl. ( im 21 now ) i could also eat anything i wanted without gaining anything. but once i was perscribed clozaril i’ve gained about twenty pounds. i have to also be very careful with what i eat.
also it makes me drool a lot in my sleep. i have to change my pillow case every morning because i wake up and it’s soaked. disgusting… i know.
but the reason why i’m staying on it is because it has been the most helpful with my illness. i’ve tried everything and this one is the only one that has worked. so i guess i rather be a little heavier and drool at night then have to end up back to the hospital because of hallucinations.

I’ve been on so many medications. I’ve experienced an array of side effects and have hated most of them.
Ummm…I’m just going to list everything and add my side effects…
Haldol - sleepy.
Prolixin - lactation, weight gain, tremors
Zyprexa - major weight gain, restlessness, tremors
Risperdal - major weight gain, lactation, tremors
Seroquel - major (MAJOR) weight gain, inability to sleep, restlessness, tremors
Geodon - lactation (mild)
Invega - lactation, major weight gain, tremors
Abilify - inability to sleep, suicidal thoughts, tremors
Lexapro - suicidal thoughts, (other then that I don’t really remember)
Proxac - none
Paxil - increased suicidal thoughts
Zoloft - currently taking with no side effects
Pristiq - major nausea, sleepiness, tremors
Effexor - inability to sleep
Remeron - sleepiness (that’s what I took it for tho)
Wellbutrin - major nausea (had to stop taking it because of this reason)
Buspar - none that I remember
Trazodone - sleepiness
Ambien - sleep walking and sleep eating.
Topamax - decrease hunger, weight loss
Ativan - tremors, sleepiness

The worst medication for me was zyprexa (olanzapine). I had weight gain, slept too much, and finally became suicidal. Risperdal made me utterly freak out, I simply could not even tolerate it long enough to see if it would do what was needed. Geodon was very good for me until I had problems with my blood pressure and heart from it, then I had to stop taking it. Celexa made me gain weight.
If you have taken anti psychotics and experienced memory problems it is confusing knowing the difference between what is a side effect of the drugs or a disease process. I too have memory problems but I think it is a result of my illness .

SSRI’s make my libido go away. Geodon made me feel like I had the flu.

I was put on a high dosage of Topamax for about nine years. Although I lost weight (which I rather enjoyed) it made me dumber than a door knob. I had trouble thinking of words, spelling, and had short term memory loss. However, that was mild compared to the fact that it caused 5 kidney stones and in turn turned my blood acidy (known as acidosis). This leeched the calcium out of my bones making them very soft. I learned this the hard way. I stepped off the lowest step of a bleacher and all three bones in my lower leg fractured, snapping my foot off at the ankle. It was put back together with plates and screws. Meanwhile, my acidosis was causing kidney damage. I had a condition called Renal Tubular Acidosis. In spite of treatment my kidneys were getting worse. I was close to going into renal failure and possible death. I was told the only thing that would save me was quitting the Topamax. After withdrawing from it slowly and carefully, my kidney functions returned to normal.
